Clinical Application
Designed to provide stable, controlled separation of the ribs to expose the thoracic cavity. Ideal for open thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, mediastinal surgery and other chest wall procedures where reliable intercostal retraction is required. Serrated blade faces enhance purchase on osseous and cartilaginous rib surfaces to reduce slip during retraction and facilitate a consistent working corridor for the operative team.
Design & Configuration
The two-blade, self-retaining design centers a screw/rack mechanism to permit incremental, controlled opening and secure maintenance of the chosen span without continuous manual force. Serrated blade faces distribute grip across the rib edge to minimize rotation and migration during instrument use. The overall geometry of the spreader supports bilateral, symmetrical retraction, enabling improved visualization and access while helping the surgeon modulate spread force to limit unnecessary soft-tissue or bony trauma.
