Clinical Application
This blunt uterine scoop is intended for gynecologic procedures requiring atraumatic collection or removal of intrauterine material. Common uses include endometrial sampling, removal of small retained products of conception or necrotic tissue, and gentle mechanical exploration of the uterine cavity during dilation and curettage (D&C) procedures. The blunt rim is selected when minimizing the risk of endometrial scoring or uterine perforation is a priority compared with sharp curettage.
Design & Configuration
The instrument features a spoon-shaped, blunt 10 mm tip mounted on a 28 cm shaft to reach the uterine fundus in most adult patients while maintaining tactile feedback. The blunt, concave bowl collects tissue with a scraping/scooping action rather than cutting, which reduces the chance of penetrating the myometrium. The length and slender profile permit controlled insertion and manipulation through the cervix under direct or indirect visualization.
