Clinical Application
Wrigley obstetrical forceps are designed to assist operative vaginal deliveries by providing controlled traction and limited rotation of the fetal head during low and outlet extractions. They are used to shorten the second stage of labor when maternal or fetal factors indicate assisted delivery, to guide the head through the birth canal in the low pelvis, and to facilitate delivery where precise manual control is required.
Design & Configuration
The short overall length and blade geometry reduce the lever arm and improve operator control in the confined space of the birth canal. Fenestrated blades cradle the fetal head and distribute contact forces to reduce focal pressure, while the combined pelvic and cephalic curvature aligns the instrument to maternal anatomy and the fetal presenting part. A secure interlocking mechanism permits coordinated application of the two blades for predictable traction and release.
