Clinical Application
The Wolff plaster cast breaker is designed to create controlled fractures in rigid cast materials (plaster of Paris and fiberglass) to facilitate safe cast removal. It is used in orthopedics, emergency departments, and outpatient clinics to localize breaks in the cast so that subsequent spreading or cutting can be performed with reduced risk to the underlying limb. The manual nature of the tool makes it useful when powered cast saws are not suitable or available, or when the clinician prefers tactile control during initial cast disruption.
Design & Configuration
The 22 cm overall length provides a balance between reach and manual control at the bedside. Its hand-held geometry concentrates mechanical force into the cast material, enabling precise, localized fragmentation while preserving tactile feedback and visual control. The compact profile helps the operator position the instrument near the limb and work in confined treatment areas without the bulk of powered equipment.
