Clinical Application
A compact, sharp two-prong Volkmann retractor designed for secure retraction and exposure of superficial tissues and wound edges. Its small footprint and pointed prongs make it well suited to procedures in confined surgical fields — including hand and wrist surgery, plastic and reconstructive procedures, ENT, minor orthopedic exposures, and routine soft-tissue debridement. The sharp tips provide a firm purchase on fascia, subcutaneous tissue, or skin edges when a reliable hold is required; they are not recommended for atraumatic retraction of very delicate structures such as nerves or vessels.
Design & Configuration
The two sharp prongs concentrate retraction force into narrow contact points, which improves grip on dense or slippery tissues and minimizes slippage during manipulation. At 11.5 cm overall length, the instrument offers a balance of reach and control for close-quarters work without excessive leverage. The hand-held rake format allows quick insertion, repositioning, and release during layered exposure and suture placement.
