Clinical Application
This instrument is intended for creation of a pneumoperitoneum to facilitate safe entry for diagnostic and therapeutic laparoscopic procedures. The spring-loaded Veress obturator is designed to minimize the risk of visceral and vascular injury during blind peritoneal access by producing a blunt tip on tissue penetration and allowing immediate insufflation once the peritoneal cavity has been entered.
Design & Configuration
The hollow cannula combined with a spring-loaded blunt stylet is the defining configuration for safe insufflation. The stylet advances within the outer needle and springs forward on loss of resistance to produce a blunt profile that protects underlying structures. The 120 mm length provides sufficient reach for standard abdominal wall thickness while the straight needle profile supports direct, controlled insertion and reliable gas flow through the cannula once positioned.
Instrument Specifications
- Type: Veress pneumoperitoneum needle
- Model / pattern: Veress needle
- Size: 2 x 120 mm
- Tip: Spring-loaded blunt stylet (Veress-style)
- Primary use: Establishment of pneumoperitoneum for laparoscopic access
- Construction: Hollow cannula for insufflation with internal spring-loaded obturator
- Reusable: Yes
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel and designed for repeated sterilization and reprocessing. The internal stylet is spring-actuated to create the characteristic blunt profile on entry; the hollow cannula allows passage of insufflation gas once proper placement is achieved.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
