Clinical Application
Used to dilate and calibrate the urethral lumen and to aid placement of catheters or introducers during urologic procedures. Commonly used for management of urethral strictures, pre-catheterization dilation, and intraoperative assessment of lumen caliber. The instrument provides a firm, controlled profile for passage through the urethra while minimizing mucosal trauma when used with appropriate lubrication and technique.
Design & Configuration
The curved, single-ended design follows urethral anatomy to facilitate smooth passage along the course of the urethra. A progressively tapered, rounded tip reduces catch and mucosal abrasion during insertion. The rigid construction gives tactile feedback and control during dilation or calibration, allowing the clinician to sense resistance and proceed cautiously. The 30FG size is selected when a larger-caliber dilation or confirmation of a wider lumen is required.
