Clinical Application

This snare is designed for controlled excision of palatine tonsils using a loop-and-tighten technique. The instrument seats a wire loop around the tonsillar tissue at the tonsillar pedicle; progressive tightening of the loop cores and separates the tissue with controlled traction. It is used in traditional (cold‑steel) tonsillectomy and in cases where a mechanical snare is preferred to facilitate rapid removal of bulky tissue and aid visualization of the surgical field.

Design & Configuration

The single-loop configuration with a straight tip provides a direct anterior approach to the tonsil body and pedicle. A straight tip permits straightforward placement of the loop along the superior pole and lateral aspect of the tonsil without an offset bend, which can simplify positioning in limited mouths or when direct line-of-sight is required. The handle and shaft geometry of the Tyding pattern are intended to give the operator gradual, tactile control of loop tension for precise tissue engagement and transection.
