Clinical Application
Provides controlled dilation of the mitral valve orifice during open cardiac procedures. Primarily used to expand and assess the mitral valve opening during commissurotomy, to facilitate exposure and leaflet inspection in mitral valve repair, and to assist intraoperative sizing and assessment prior to prosthetic implantation.
Design & Configuration
The instrument features graduated dilating jaws with a 9–45 mm operational range to accommodate variable patient anatomy. Broad, atraumatic jaw faces distribute contact pressure across the valve orifice to minimize tissue trauma while providing predictable expansion. The handheld configuration gives the surgeon direct tactile control for incremental dilation and intraoperative assessment.
