Clinical Application
Provides a secure, patent airway by bypassing the upper airway. Used in operating rooms, intensive care units, long-term care and ENT/head-and-neck procedures for emergency or planned tracheostomy, prolonged mechanical ventilation, facilitation of tracheal suctioning, pulmonary toilet, and airway protection in patients with compromised airway reflexes.
Design & Configuration
The curved tubular cannula conforms to tracheal anatomy and terminates at a low-profile external flange for fixation to the neck. Designs that include a removable inner cannula permit rapid clearance of secretions without removing the primary cannula, reducing the need for repeated tube changes. Cuffed variants provide a sealed interface for positive-pressure ventilation and aspiration control; fenestrated configurations enable airflow to the upper airway to assist phonation when clinically appropriate. An obturator is typically used for atraumatic insertion and is removed once correct placement is confirmed.
Instrument Specifications
- Curved cannula with external neck flange for secure fixation
- Removable inner cannula option for bedside cleaning and reduced downtime
- Cuffed and uncuffed options; fenestrated options available for speech rehabilitation
- Intended uses: airway establishment, ventilation interface, suctioning access, long-term airway management
- Reusable, sterilizable construction for repeated clinical use
Material & Construction
Constructed for sterilizable, reusable clinical use. Common manufacturing choices for reusable surgical tracheotomy tubes include polished surgical-grade stainless steel; single-use alternatives are commonly made from medical-grade PVC or silicone. Designs prioritize smooth internal surfaces to minimize secretion adherence and allow effective cleaning and sterilization.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
