Clinical Application
Designed for controlled removal and trimming of plaster and synthetic limb casts, this shear provides clinicians with a tool to release or shorten casts at the bedside, in the emergency department, or in the clinic. The blunt lower jaw facilitates passage between the cast and the underlying padding/skin, helping to reduce the risk of iatrogenic soft-tissue injury while cutting rigid cast material along planned lines.
Design & Configuration
The long 37 cm length gives added reach and mechanical advantage for cutting around larger circumferences and distal-to-proximal work on the extremities. The scissor-style geometry with angled blades allows the operator to follow limb contours and work in confined spaces while maintaining tactile control. A blunt, wedge-like lower blade that slides under the cast helps protect the patient’s skin during cutting; the upper blade provides the cutting action required for dense plaster and modern synthetic casting materials.
