Clinical Application
This curette is designed for controlled manual bone scraping and scooping in procedures that require precise removal of cancellous or pathologic bone. Common applications include orthopedic and trauma procedures, curettage of bone lesions or cysts, debridement of infected or necrotic bone, contouring bone margins around fixation hardware, and obtaining small bone samples for biopsy. The 16.5 cm length provides reach into moderately deep surgical sites while preserving tactile control.
Design & Configuration
The spoon-shaped curette edge permits efficient scraping and scooping motions while minimizing inadvertent gouging. A rigid shaft transmits tactile feedback to the surgeon for controlled tissue removal, and the slender profile facilitates access within confined cavities and cortical windows. The Fig.1 Spratt geometry is optimized for combination of scraping surface area and directional control, allowing surgeons to remove bone in layers with predictable force application.
