Clinical Application

Designed for gynecologic visualization and exposure, this Sims-style speculum provides controlled lateral and posterior retraction of the vaginal walls to improve access to the cervix and vaginal fornices. It is used during pelvic examinations, preparation for operative procedures (e.g., dilation and curettage), device placement (IUD insertion), vaginal packing, and a variety of minor operative and diagnostic interventions where enhanced lateral exposure is required.

Design & Configuration

The single-curved blade geometry of the Sims pattern displaces the vaginal sidewall and creates a clear working channel to the cervix and posterior fornix. The D/E double-ended configuration supplies two blade profiles in one instrument—a smaller blade for narrower anatomy and a larger blade for broader exposure—allowing clinicians to select the appropriate size intra-procedurally without switching instruments. The open-sided design permits irrigation, suction, and instrument access alongside direct visualization.
