Clinical Application

Designed for use in assisted vaginal delivery during the second stage of labor, this Simpson obstetrical forceps provide controlled traction and limited rotation of the fetal head when clinically indicated. They are used by obstetricians and delivery teams to aid in delivery when progress has stalled, fetal or maternal indications require shortening the second stage, or when controlled extraction is preferable to cesarean delivery. Proper selection and placement are critical — device use requires familiarity with fetal position, station, and maternal pelvic anatomy to minimize maternal and fetal trauma.

Design & Configuration

The Simpson pattern features fenestrated blades with coordinated cephalic and pelvic curvature to conform to the maternal birth canal while distributing compressive forces around the fetal head. Fenestrations reduce direct surface pressure compared with solid blades, improving grip while limiting soft-tissue compression. The articulated hinge and locking mechanism allow aligned placement of the two blades and permit the operator to apply controlled traction and slight rotation as needed. The 30 cm overall length provides reach and mechanical advantage suitable for standard obstetric use.
