Clinical Application
Used as a percutaneous anchoring element for external fixation and skeletal traction, this Schanz-style bone screw provides stable purchase in diaphyseal cortical bone for temporary fracture stabilization, provisional fixation during open reduction internal fixation (ORIF), and for modular external fixator constructs. The flat tip is selected when a broader cortical contact is desirable for load distribution and predictable seating against the outer cortex.
Design & Configuration
The head geometry is configured to accept standard Schanz drivers or chucks, allowing reliable transfer of torque during insertion and removal. The flat tip geometry creates a wider contact surface at the bone interface compared with tapered trocar tips; clinically this can reduce point-load concentration on cortical bone and support stable bone–pin interface in applications where toggling or cut-through is a concern. The shaft and thread profile (standard for Schanz-type pins) provide axial and rotational stability within external fixation constructs.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Schanz-style bone screw for external fixation
- Pattern / model: Schanz
- Configuration: Headed fixation pin compatible with common drivers and fixator clamps
- Tip / jaw pattern: Flat tip for broad cortical contact
- Typical surgical use: External fixation, skeletal traction, temporary bone anchorage
- Material / construction: Surgical-grade stainless steel
- Reusable: Designed for repeated sterilization and reuse
Material & Construction
Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel to provide strength and corrosion resistance during repeated sterilization cycles. The headed design facilitates secure engagement with manual or power drivers and clamp systems common in external fixation assemblies. Reusable construction allows instruments to be cleaned and sterilized per facility protocols for multiple procedures.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
