Clinical Application
This double-ended Roux retractor is designed for controlled, hand-held retraction of superficial tissues and wound edges. It is commonly used in open general and abdominal procedures to maintain exposure of shallow cavities, reduce the need for frequent instrument exchanges, and provide atraumatic, broad-surface retraction during tissue dissection, bowel handling, small incision exposure, and closure. Its flat blade faces are suited for retracting soft tissue without focal pressure from teeth.
Design & Configuration
The double-ended configuration gives the surgical team two usable blade ends on a single instrument, allowing rapid reversal of orientation or the option to present a different blade profile without replacing the instrument. The 15 cm working length offers a balance of reach and tactile control for assistant-held retraction in most superficial and midline abdominal exposures. Broad, flat blade geometry distributes retraction force over a larger surface area to minimize focal tissue compression while maintaining a stable operative field.
Instrument Specifications
- Hand-held, non-self-retaining retractor
- Double-ended layout (Fig. 2)
- Overall length: 15 cm
- Broad, flat blade ends for soft-tissue retraction
