Clinical Application
Designed for open surgical procedures where a firm, secure grip on dense tissue or tissue bundles is required. Commonly used in general, colorectal, gynecologic, thoracic, and vascular surgeries to grasp bowel, fascia, muscle, and pedicles, provide traction, and assist in temporary hemostasis. The interlocking Ochsner jaw pattern is intended to resist slippage when handling heavy or slippery tissue; it is not recommended for delicate structures that require atraumatic handling.
Design & Configuration
The curved shaft facilitates access into deeper or confined operative fields, allowing the surgeon to approach tissue at an angle while maintaining control. The Ochsner interlocking toothed jaws provide a positive mechanical hold, reducing the need for repeated repositioning. Ring handles with a ratchet locking mechanism permit locked retention of tissue without continuous manual compression; a robust box lock at the hinge gives long-term mechanical stability and consistent jaw alignment.
