Clinical Application
This rigid Yankauer suction is designed for reliable removal of secretions, blood and debris from the oral cavity, pharynx and immediate surgical field. It is commonly used during induction and emergence from anesthesia to maintain a clear airway, in ENT and oral surgery procedures for gross suctioning, and throughout general surgery when controlled, atraumatic aspiration is required. The 13.5 cm working length provides access to the oropharynx without advancing into the lower airway, making it suitable for routine suctioning tasks at the head of the table.
Design & Configuration
The classic Yankauer geometry — a rigid shaft terminating in a bulbous tip with a broadly open lumen — balances effective evacuation with reduced risk of mucosal entrapment. The rigid construction allows direct manual control and tactile feedback, while the bulb-shaped tip disperses suction forces to minimize local tissue trauma. The moderate 13.5 cm length offers improved maneuverability around the oral cavity and surgical drapes compared with longer rigid suctions.
