Clinical Application
Designed for establishment of pneumoperitoneum prior to laparoscopic access, this Veress pneumoperitoneum needle is used to percutaneously enter the peritoneal cavity and permit insufflation with CO2. It is suitable for general surgical and gynecologic laparoscopy where closed (Veress) entry technique is selected. Proper use includes confirmation of intraperitoneal placement (e.g., saline drop, aspiration, and low-pressure insufflation) before completing insufflation and trocar placement.
Design & Configuration
The instrument uses a spring-loaded blunt inner stylet housed within a sharp outer cannula. The spring action allows the blunt stylet to protrude once the peritoneal cavity is entered, reducing the risk of visceral or vascular injury compared with a rigid trocar. The slender 2 mm profile minimizes tissue trauma on insertion while the 150 mm length provides reach through typical adult abdominal wall thicknesses. This simple, proven geometry supports controlled entry and reliable insufflation during initial access.
