Clinical Application

This instrument is intended to create a controlled pneumoperitoneum prior to laparoscopic procedures. The spring‑loaded obturator protects intra‑abdominal viscera during percutaneous entry through the abdominal wall and allows rapid access for CO2 insufflation. It is commonly used for initial infraumbilical or periumbilical entry in diagnostic laparoscopy, general surgery, gynecology, and other minimally invasive procedures where an insufflated working space is required.

The device uses a sharp outer cannula with an internal spring‑loaded blunt stylet. On initial puncture the sharp cannula facilitates skin and fascia penetration; once the peritoneal cavity is entered the blunt stylet projects to reduce the risk of organ or vessel injury.
