Clinical Application
Designed for percutaneous access to the maxillary antrum, this trocar provides controlled entry for antral aspiration, irrigation (antral washout), collection of cultures or specimens, and delivery of local therapies. It is used in office-based or operating-room antral washouts, acute sinus drainage procedures and components of maxillary exploration such as Caldwell–Luc approaches where temporary cannulation of the antrum is required.
Design & Configuration
The instrument features a rigid hollow cannula and a sharp obturator (trocar point) sized to allow immediate aspiration and irrigation once the antrum is entered. The obturator provides a focused, low-profile point for controlled penetration through soft tissue and thin bone of the canine fossa; removal of the obturator leaves a patent cannula in place to permit suction, lavage or instillation without repeated transgression of the mucosa. The straight geometry and rigid construction maintain lumen patency under suction and irrigation flow, helping minimize clogging during antral washout.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Antrum trocar
- Pattern / model: Tilley Lichtwitz
- Configuration: Hollow cannula with removable obturator
- Tip: Sharp trocar point for percutaneous antral entry

Material & Construction
Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel and finished to surgical tolerances, the instrument is intended for repeated cleaning and sterilization. The rigid cannula construction maintains lumen integrity for suction and irrigation; components are engineered for reliable seating of the obturator and straightforward removal to leave a patent cannula in situ.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
