Clinical Application
Used to stiffen, guide and maintain patency of a Magill suction tube during oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning. The stilette provides a temporary rigid core that facilitates atraumatic passage of the suction lumen past the oropharynx, hypopharynx or into surgical fields where secretions are viscous or the catheter lumen tends to collapse. Commonly used in anesthesiology, ENT procedures, emergency airway management and perioperative suctioning where controlled placement and reliable suction performance are required.
Design & Configuration
The instrument is a slender, rigid introducer sized to slide inside the Magill suction tube lumen. Its tapered, blunt tip reduces the risk of creating sharp edges within the catheter while easing navigation around curves in the upper airway. The rigid core resists kinking and lumen collapse, improving suction efficacy when aspirating thick secretions or when the catheter must be advanced under direct or indirect visualization. A smooth polished surface minimizes friction against the inner wall of the suction tube for easier insertion and removal.
