Clinical Application

The Poole suction tube is designed for rapid evacuation of large volumes of blood, serous fluid and irrigation from body cavities during open abdominal and general surgical procedures. Its multi-holed barrel disperses suction across a broad area to avoid focal tissue entrapment, making it useful for pooling fluid removal during laparotomy, trauma cases, C-sections and other procedures where efficient high-flow suction is required. A Poole-style tube features a wide-bore, fenestrated outer sleeve that protects soft tissues and viscera from being drawn into the suction port. The removable inner cannula (obturator/trocar) permits unobstructed high-flow suction when removed and allows quick clearing of blockages when reinserted. The overall geometry prioritizes volume handling and soft-tissue protection rather than fine, focal suctioning—this makes the instrument complementary to smaller Yankauer or Frazier tips used for precise suction.
