Clinical Application
This instrument provides percutaneous access to the maxillary antrum for procedures such as antral lavage, aspiration of purulent material, drainage, sampling for culture, and delivery of topical medications. It is intended for use by otolaryngology surgeons and clinic staff in outpatient and operating room settings where controlled, atraumatic puncture and temporary cannulation of the antrum are required.
Design & Configuration
The olive obturator provides an atraumatic, rounded leading surface that reduces soft-tissue injury during entry and acts as a stop to help control insertion depth. Once the obturator is withdrawn, the 4 mm cannula serves as a sealed port for suction, irrigation, and instrument passage. The simple trocar-and-olive configuration offers direct tactile feedback at puncture and a stable cannula lumen for controlled lavage and aspiration.
