Clinical Application
Provides a percutaneous access channel for introduction of endoscopic instruments and for establishment of working ports during minimally invasive procedures. Commonly used to gain abdominal or pelvic access where a rigid, tubular pathway is required to protect soft tissues during instrument exchange and to facilitate passage of scopes, graspers, cameras, and insufflation tubing. Selection of tip profile and cannula diameter (confirm with product listing) affects insertion force, tissue trauma, and instrument compatibility.
Design & Configuration
The instrument pairs a removable obturator (trocar) with a matching hollow cannula to create a controlled, protected access tract. The obturator penetrates through the abdominal wall and is withdrawn to leave the cannula in place, providing a stable lumen for instrument exchange. This configuration minimizes repeated tissue disruption and allows rapid conversion between insertion and instrument access. The straight alignment and smooth internal bore of the cannula reduce friction on introduced instruments and scope optics.
