Clinical Application
Provides a dedicated airway conduit for patients requiring a tracheostomy. Used to secure and maintain tracheal access for ventilation, continuous or intermittent suctioning, secretion management, and intraoperative or critical-care airway control. The 20 French size is selected to balance inner lumen patency with patient comfort and is commonly used when a mid-range lumen calibre is required for effective suctioning and ventilator support.
Design & Configuration
The Figure 3 configuration is a standard tracheostomy geometry intended to align the tube within the tracheal lumen while minimizing displacement and pressure against the anterior tracheal wall. A correctly sized 20 Fr tube permits adequate airflow and passage of suction catheters or bronchoscopes compatible with that lumen. The overall geometry and flange interface are important for secure fixation to the neck and to reduce translational movement during patient transport or care.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Tracheostomy tube
- Pattern / model: Parker Fig. 3
- Size: 20 French (20Fg)
