Clinical Application
Designed to provide controlled, atraumatic retraction of the sternum and adjacent thoracic structures to expose the mediastinum, heart and pleural spaces during cardiac and thoracic procedures. The Mercedes blade geometry offers broad, stable purchase on the sternal edges to minimize concentrated pressure and improve visualization for procedures such as median sternotomy, coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair/replacement and other open-chest operations.
Design & Configuration
The instrument uses a self-retaining spreader mechanism with adjustable Mercedes-style blades. The blade geometry distributes retraction forces across a wider contact area along the sternal edge, which helps reduce focal pressure points and facilitates even separation. The adjustable spread and reliable locking mechanism allow incremental opening and secure maintenance of the surgical field without constant manual retraction, improving operative ergonomics for the surgeon and surgical team.
Instrument Specifications
