Clinical Application
This compact Finochietto spreader provides focused rib and intercostal retraction for open thoracic procedures where a smaller profile is advantageous — for example, limited thoracotomy exposures, pediatric or small adult chest walls, or when conserving intercostal space is required. As a spreader-only unit it is intended for use in instrument sets that employ interchangeable Finochietto blades, allowing the surgeon to select blade size and shape appropriate to the case.
Design & Configuration
The small-frame geometry reduces bulk in the wound while preserving the controlled mechanical advantage of a Finochietto-style spreader. A geared/rachet advancement provides incremental, locked spreading for gradual, atraumatic separation of the ribs and stable maintenance of exposure throughout the procedure. The spreader-only configuration simplifies replacement or upgrade of the rack mechanism without replacing blade assemblies.
Instrument Specifications
- Instrument type: Rib spreader (Finochietto)
- Pattern / model: Small Finochietto
- Configuration: Spreader-only; accepts detachable Finochietto blades (blades sold separately)
- Length / size: 15 cm
- Typical use: Open thoracic access and intercostal retraction during thoracotomy and related procedures
- Material / construction: Aluminum frame
- Reusable construction designed for routine clinical reprocessing
Material & Construction
The frame is fabricated from aluminum to provide a lightweight, durable spreader body that reduces surgeon fatigue and minimizes instrument weight in the wound. The mechanism is engineered for smooth, controlled advancement and secure locking. This spreader is designed to work with standard stainless-steel Finochietto blade assemblies (sold separately), allowing durable cutting-edge contact surfaces where required.
Quality & Compliance
