Clinical Application
Provides controlled, self-retaining retraction of the ribs and chest wall during thoracotomy and other open thoracic procedures. The blade footprint supports broad contact with the ribs to improve exposure of the pleural space, lungs and mediastinum while helping to distribute pressure and reduce focal stress on costal cartilage. Suitable for standard adult thoracic exposures where a moderate maximum span is required.
Design & Configuration
The rack-and-pinion, self-retaining mechanism permits incremental adjustment and sustained retraction without continuous manual holding, freeing the surgical assistant and facilitating stable exposure. The rectangular blade geometry (85 x 65 mm) increases contact area on the rib surface to minimize point-loading and localized trauma. The 175 mm instrument length provides a moderate spread suitable for common thoracotomy approaches while maintaining instrument control in the surgical field.
