Clinical Application
This Finochietto rib spreader is intended for controlled separation of the ribs and maintenance of a surgical field during open thoracic procedures. It is used to provide reproducible exposure for pulmonary resections, thoracotomy access, mediastinal procedures and other chest wall interventions where stable, adjustable retraction of the intercostal space is required.
Design & Configuration
The instrument uses the classic Finochietto rack-and-pinion ratcheting mechanism to deliver stepwise, controlled distraction of the ribs. The asymmetric 45 x 65 mm blade footprint permits adaptation to different intercostal widths and anatomy while the 210 mm overall length provides a moderate span for common thoracic exposures. The manual ratchet enables gradual widening and secure fixation of the spread, allowing surgeons to optimize visualization while minimizing uncontrolled force on the chest wall.
