Clinical Application
Provides controlled, stable separation of ribs and intercostal tissues to expose the thoracic cavity during lateral and anterolateral thoracotomy, pulmonary resection, chest wall procedures, conversion from VATS to open access, and other intrathoracic operations. The device enables sustained exposure for dissection, stapling, anastomosis, and haemostasis while allowing incremental adjustment to minimize soft-tissue strain during retraction.
Design & Configuration
The Finochietto pattern uses opposing contoured blades mounted on an adjustable, self-retaining rack-and-ratchet mechanism to maintain a set degree of spread without constant manual force. Blade geometry (45 x 65 mm) provides a broad contact area to distribute load across the rib margins, and the 210 mm overall length affords reach and leverage for typical adult thoracic approaches. The ratcheting adjustment permits fine, stepwise spreading for controlled exposure and rapid locking/unlocking to facilitate instrument and specimen exchange.
