Clinical Application
Provides reliable, self-retaining rib retraction to expose the thoracic cavity during open thoracotomy and other chest-wall procedures. Commonly used to facilitate visualization and access for lung resections, pleural procedures, chest wall repairs, and intra-thoracic explorations where controlled lateral retraction of adjacent ribs is required.
Design & Configuration
The Finochietto design uses opposing blades and a ratchet locking mechanism to permit gradual, controlled spreading and stable retention of the retraction gap. The geometry of the blades and the ratchet engagement allow precise incremental opening while maintaining hands-free exposure, reducing the need for constant manual retraction. Lightweight aluminum construction improves handling and reduces surgeon fatigue during prolonged cases.
