Clinical Application
Provides controlled retraction of the ribs and intercostal tissues during open thoracotomy and other thoracic procedures. The device establishes and maintains a stable operative field for lung resection, mediastinal exposure, esophageal access and other intrathoracic interventions where prolonged, atraumatic separation of the ribs is required.
Design & Configuration
The Finochietto pattern uses a self-retaining rack-and-pinion mechanism to deliver incremental, controlled spreading with a single-handed adjustment. Opposing blades present broad contact surfaces that distribute load along the rib to minimize focal pressure. The geometric relationship between the central screw mechanism and the blade arms maintains parallel separation and resists inadvertent collapse, allowing the surgical team to work with both hands free.
