Clinical Application
This self-retaining rib retractor is intended to provide stable, hands‑free exposure of the thoracic cavity during open thoracotomy, mediastinal procedures, chest-wall reconstruction, and related thoracic surgery. The two available dimensional options (47x62x300 mm and 65x62x300 mm) allow selection of blade geometry appropriate for smaller or larger chest walls and for variable depth of exposure.
Design & Configuration
The classic Finochietto/Burford configuration uses a rack-and-pinion/ratchet spreading mechanism to allow controlled, incremental opening and secure self-retention of the spread position. Paired blades provide broad contact with the ribs to distribute retraction forces and reduce focal pressure on bony margins. Blade width and depth options permit the surgeon to tailor lateral span and intrathoracic access while maintaining a stable field for dissection, suturing, and implant placement.
