Clinical Application
Provides controlled lateral separation of the ribs to expose the pleural space, mediastinum and thoracic structures. Commonly used during open thoracotomy, pulmonary resections, chest wall procedures and other procedures that require sustained, atraumatic retraction of the ribs for visualization and access. The broad blades distribute pressure across the intercostal space to reduce focal stress on ribs and soft tissue.
Design & Configuration
The DeBakey-style geometry pairs broad, contoured blades with a progressive adjustment mechanism to allow controlled incremental opening. This configuration permits the surgeon to obtain the necessary exposure while minimizing abrupt forces on the costal margin and intercostal muscles. The "retractor only" configuration means the unit provides the blade and separation mechanism appropriate for manual or table-mounted use without additional accessory components.
