Clinical Application

This center blade provides focused midline retraction for open abdominal procedures. Used as the central element of a Balfour‑style self‑retaining retractor, it elevates and holds the linea alba and peritoneal tissues to expose the operative field, improving visualization and instrument access during laparotomy, bowel resections, gynecologic procedures and urologic cases. When combined with lateral blades and the retractor frame, it reduces the need for continuous handheld retraction and helps maintain a stable operative exposure.
