Clinical Application

Medial blades for the Caspar retractor are used to establish and maintain a clear, controlled anterior cervical corridor during procedures such as anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and other anterior cervical spine approaches. The medial blade is placed toward the midline to retract soft tissues and the esophageal–tracheal complex medially, protecting neurovascular and visceral structures while exposing vertebral bodies and disc spaces. These blades are intended for use in conjunction with lateral blades and the Caspar frame/distractor to provide stable exposure and working length for instrumentation, discectomy, graft placement, and fusion.

Design & Configuration

The rectangular 60 × 20 mm face provides a predictable contact area that distributes retraction forces over a defined surface, helping to minimize focal pressure on soft tissues. The low-profile geometry is beneficial in the constrained anterior cervical space, improving visualization without adding bulk that can obstruct instrumentation. The medial orientation directs soft tissue medially and complements lateral blades to create a balanced operative corridor. Blades of this pattern are manufactured to mount securely to Caspar-style frames, ensuring stable positioning throughout the procedure.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Retractor blade
  • Pattern / model: Medial blade for Caspar retractor
  • Configuration: Medial orientation with low-profile rectangular face
  • Size: 60 x 20 mm blade face
  • Typical use: Anterior cervical spine exposure (e.g., ACDF)
  • Material: Surgical-grade stainless steel
  • Reusable: Designed for repeated sterilization and reuse

Material & Construction

Constructed from surgical-grade stainless steel to provide durability, corrosion resistance, and compatibility with standard sterilization methods. The blade geometry and finish are optimized for repeated clinical use while maintaining a smooth tissue-contact surface to reduce adhesion and facilitate cleaning.

Quality & Compliance

Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.

Brand Comparison

Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
