Clinical Application
This lateral retractor blade is used to provide controlled lateral retraction of soft tissues during anterior cervical spine procedures, including anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), cervical decompression, and single-level anterior exposures. When mounted to a Caspar-style retractor frame, the blade maintains lateral exposure of the disc space and vertebral bodies, improving visualization of the operative field while allowing unobstructed access for discectomy, bone work, graft placement, and instrumentation.
Design & Configuration
The lateral orientation and rectangular 50 x 20 mm footprint create a broad contact surface that distributes retraction forces across soft tissue, reducing focal pressure and potential tissue injury. The geometry supports low-profile placement within a limited operative corridor, providing sufficient reach and lateral displacement while preserving working space for instruments. Smooth, contoured edges facilitate atraumatic insertion and reduce slippage during retraction. The blade is configured for secure attachment to Caspar-style blade clamps to maintain consistent exposure throughout the procedure.
