Clinical Application
Designed for use in otolaryngology procedures involving the maxillary antrum, the instrument facilitates controlled scraping and removal of diseased mucosa, retained secretions, polyp tissue, and bony spicules. Common applications include intra-antral debridement during endoscopic sinus surgery, post-operative cleaning of the antrum, and during controlled open approaches when direct access to the maxillary sinus is required.
Design & Configuration
The Coakley Fig. 5 geometry provides an angulated shaft and a spoon-shaped curette tip that allow access into the recesses of the maxillary antrum while keeping the operating hand clear of the surgical field. The 17 cm working length extends reach into the sinus cavity and through surgical windows without excessive shaft bulk. The scoop-style tip concentrates scraping force along a smooth edge to remove soft tissue and debris while minimizing risk of unintended perforation of adjacent structures when used with appropriate technique.
