Clinical Application
A four-prong blunt Volkmann retractor is used to atraumatically hold back superficial soft tissues and wound edges to improve exposure during dissection and closure. Its blunt prongs permit secure engagement of subcutaneous tissue, muscle edges, or fascia without sharp tooth penetration, making it useful in general surgery, orthopedic procedures, ENT, plastic/reconstructive cases and minor operative settings where controlled retraction of delicate tissue is required.
Design & Configuration
The four-prong rake geometry distributes retraction force across multiple contact points, reducing focal pressure compared with single-tooth instruments. Blunt prongs minimize tissue cutting and tracking while providing reliable hold on tissue planes. The 23 cm length gives additional reach for deeper wounds or for a surgeon or assistant to maintain exposure from outside the immediate field while remaining easy to maneuver in confined operative sites.
