Clinical Application
This instrument is designed to provide stable retraction of the aortic wall during open cardiac and ascending aortic procedures, including aortic valve replacement, root repair and replacement, and exposure for cannulation or suturing. The broad blade distributes contact force across the aortic wall to improve visualization of the operative field and permit controlled manipulation during delicate intracardiac work.
Design & Configuration
The Ross pattern uses a low-profile, broad rectangular blade sized 27x13 mm mounted on a 27 cm shaft to reach the operative site while keeping the surgeon and assistants clear of the field. The blade geometry offers a wide contact area to reduce localized pressure on tissue and to stabilize the aortic edge for suture placement or inspection. Shaft length provides working reach for adult thoracic exposures without requiring excessive instrument intrusion into the wound.
