Clinical Application
This 3-prong blunt tracheal retractor is designed to provide secure, atraumatic exposure of the anterior trachea and surrounding soft tissues. It is used to retract and stabilize the trachea during tracheostomy, tracheal repair, thyroid and other anterior neck procedures where clear visualization and controlled manipulation of the airway are required. The blunt prongs reduce the risk of puncture or laceration to tracheal rings and mucosa while maintaining a stable operative field for tube placement, suture placement, or surgical dissection.
Design & Configuration
The three-prong geometry distributes retraction forces evenly around the anterior tracheal wall, improving exposure without concentrat ing pressure on a single point. Blunt tips minimize tissue trauma and reduce risk of tearing while allowing secure engagement of soft tissue and superficial tracheal structures. The 16 cm overall length provides adequate reach for open neck wounds and standard operative fields, allowing the assistant to maintain retraction while the primary surgeon works. The simple, handheld configuration facilitates quick placement and removal without relying on ancillary rack systems.
