Clinical Application

This double-ended Farabeuf retractor provides low-profile, controlled retraction of superficial tissue during procedures where a compact exposure is required. Commonly used in general surgery, vascular access, plastic and reconstructive procedures, and orthopedics for holding back skin, subcutaneous tissue, and small muscle planes. The short length and flat blades make it well suited for small incisions, wound edge elevation, and temporary exposure of neurovascular structures without impeding the operative field.

Design & Configuration

The opposing-blade, double-ended layout allows the instrument to be used in either orientation for right- or left-sided exposure without changing instrumentation. The Fig. 1 blade profile features broad, flat, blunt rectangular blades that distribute retraction force across a wider surface area to minimize focal pressure on tissue. The 12 cm overall length gives the surgeon tactile control and visibility in shallow cavities while remaining small enough to avoid crowding the field.
