Clinical Application

Provides controlled exposure of the anal canal and distal rectum for diagnostic evaluation and minor proctologic interventions. Suited to bedside or operating-room use for visual inspection, irrigation, foreign-body removal, assisting anoscopy, and facilitating passage of graspers or suction during procedures. Optimal access is achieved with the patient in the Sims position to retract the posterior rectal wall and improve line-of-sight.

Design & Configuration

The Sims pattern uses a single, gently angled blade that is inserted obliquely to retract tissue and protect mucosa while creating a direct visual corridor to the rectal vault. The 15 cm blade length extends reach into the distal and mid-rectum, allowing clinicians to inspect pathologic lesions and introduce instruments alongside the speculum without compromising exposure. Smooth edges and a low-profile shaft reduce tissue trauma during insertion and manipulation.
