Clinical Application
This curved Nelaton probe is designed for use in assessment and release of ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) and related minor intraoral procedures. The blunt, rounded tip serves to locate and delineate the lingual frenulum, provide atraumatic elevation of the tongue, and protect underlying tissues while scissors or a scalpel perform a frenotomy. It is suitable for use in neonatal and pediatric frenotomy as well as in clinic or ambulatory surgery center settings for older children and adults where a probe is needed to guide and shield tissue during division.
Design & Configuration
The curved geometry follows the natural contour of the ventral tongue and floor of mouth, allowing the clinician to lift and stabilize tissue while maintaining a clear working corridor. A blunt rounded probe tip minimizes mucosal trauma during palpation and retraction and functions as a physical barrier between the cutting instrument and sublingual structures. The 16 cm length provides extended reach for firm retraction and improved control in both small and larger oral cavities.
