Clinical Application
This instrument combines a grooved director and a blunt probe to allow safe, controlled delineation and exploration of tissue planes and tracts. The grooved director is used to guide a scalpel or other cutting instrument along a predetermined path—commonly when opening sinus tracts, releasing drainage pathways, or extending incisions over foreign bodies—while the probe provides atraumatic exploration and depth assessment of wounds, abscess cavities, and fistulae. The 16 cm length accommodates deeper cavities and longer tracts encountered in general surgery, trauma, ENT, and wound care.
Design & Configuration
The longitudinal groove on the director provides a protected channel that stabilizes and guides the cutting edge of a scalpel, minimizing risk of unintended tissue injury during incision extension. The included blunt probe is shaped to pass easily through narrow tracts and cavities to assess depth, detect obstructions, and determine the direction of a tract before incision. Together, the groove and probe permit precise alignment of dissection and instrument placement, reducing tissue trauma and improving procedural control in confined or delicate anatomy.
