Clinical Application

This instrument is used to mobilize and remove atheromatous plaque from the arterial lumen after an arteriotomy during endarterectomy procedures. It is intended for use in carotid, femoral and other peripheral endarterectomies where controlled separation of the intimal plaque from the media is required under direct vision. When used with appropriate vessel control and visualization, the instrument facilitates controlled traction and counter-traction to reduce residual intimal flaps and help preserve vessel integrity during plaque extraction.

Design & Configuration

The slender shaft and atraumatic spatula-style working tip permit precise insertion into the plane between plaque and arterial wall. The working geometry is designed to allow the surgeon to develop and follow the intimal plane with tactile feedback while minimizing direct trauma to the vessel media. A comfortable ergonomic handle provides control for gentle traction and progression along the length of the endarterectomy plane, important in long plaque segments and in tight surgical fields.

Instrument Specifications

  • Instrument type: Vascular endarterectomy instrument
  • Pattern / model: Endarterectomy striper
