Clinical Application
Designed for otologic examination and manual insufflation procedures, this speculum provides a controlled conduit for air delivery during Politzerization and for direct visualization of the external auditory canal. It is intended for use in ENT clinic procedures, office-based ear assessments, and minor operative settings where a reusable speculum is required to direct airflow or access the canal.
Design & Configuration
The tapered, hollow geometry concentrates and directs a stream of air into the external auditory canal to facilitate middle ear ventilation when used with a Politzer bulb or compatible tubing. The 5.5 mm tip diameter and smooth, rounded conical profile reduce soft-tissue trauma during insertion and provide a stable seal against the canal opening for efficient insufflation. The Fig. 3 pattern denotes a specific taper and flare commonly used for adult canal work, balancing effective airflow with patient comfort.
Instrument Specifications
- Model: Fig. 3 Politzer ear speculum
- Tip diameter: 5.5 mm
- Configuration: Hollow, tapered conical speculum for attachment to insufflation bulb or tubing
- Primary use: Canal visualization and manual middle-ear insufflation
- Construction: Reusable stainless steel
Material & Construction
Manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel to withstand repeated cleaning and sterilization cycles. The conical lumen is smooth-finished to minimize tissue irritation and to allow easy passage of air when connected to an insufflation device. Reusable design supports routine autoclave decontamination protocols used in ENT practices and surgical centers.
Quality & Compliance
Manufactured by FDA-registered OEM facilities and produced under strict quality control standards.
Brand Comparison
Comparable in form and function to equivalent instruments offered by major US medical suppliers.
