Clinical Application
This small-diameter speculum provides atraumatic access to the external auditory canal for direct visualization of the canal and tympanic membrane. The 3 mm tip is appropriate for narrow adult canals and many pediatric canals, and is commonly used during otologic examinations, cerumen removal, micro‑suction procedures, and microscope-assisted ear procedures where a compact, low-profile canal aperture is required.
Design & Configuration
The tapered, conical geometry centers the instrument within the canal and creates a controlled working aperture for suction tips, curettes, or otologic instruments. A smooth, beveled margin reduces soft-tissue trauma during insertion and helps achieve a clear line of sight to the tympanic membrane. The Fig.1 configuration denotes a small-profile speculum designed for narrow anatomy or situations requiring minimal obstruction of the operative field.
