Clinical Application
This instrument is used to access and catheterize the Eustachian tube via a transnasal approach under endoscopic or microscopic guidance. It facilitates controlled insufflation or irrigation of the middle ear, assessment of tubal patency, and therapeutic maneuvers in the management of Eustachian tube dysfunction and middle ear disease. Typical settings include ENT clinics, procedure rooms, and operating rooms where precise, atraumatic tubal access is required.
Design & Configuration
The slender, rigid shaft provides tactile feedback and controlled advancement through the nasopharynx to the tubal orifice. The Fig. 5 pattern denotes a specific geometry intended to assist alignment with the Eustachian tube opening. An atraumatic rounded (olive) tip minimizes mucosal trauma during engagement, while the hollow lumen allows delivery of air or fluid. The proximal hub is configured to permit secure attachment to irrigation or insufflation devices, enabling controlled delivery without loss of position.
